【S】My thoughts on the Super Bowl ads

Last week, I finally convinced myself to watch the Super Bowl for the very first time. I was never a huge fan of football, but this time- I figured I had to join the bandwagon to support our own Seahawks team! 😉 It was super fun and to be honest, I love how the whole town celebrates together- it just feels so great seeing everyone so happy and so excited for the same thing. 🙂

Another thing I was really looking forward to was the Super Bowl ads. I mean…seriously, I learned about the big deal about Super Bowl in my marketing class (yes, I know this could be a shock to some of you and yes, this is a little embarrassing, but I had to admit it :P) Unfortunately though, I didn’t really get to watch a lot of ads during the game, because people were just too excited even during the commercials (very understandably so ;))! So I decided to go to the Chalk Talk event hosted by AAF Seattle with some of my colleagues and see what the experts had to say about this year’s Super Bowl ads. I was also curious because out of the ones I did see during the game (or online before the game), I wasn’t as impressed as I thought I’d be.

Although thousands of people have already discussed the Super Bowl websites on the internet, and it’s been a week since Super Bowl…I thought I’d still chime in some of my personal opinions:) :

【S】Social Media One-Night Stand III

Finally, my last post on Social Media One Night Stand. I took so much notes that I had to separate them into 3 posts…

Read Post I on some Twitter Tips and Post II on other important concepts on how to manage your social media channels if you haven’t. For this post, I want to share some online tools that Sree introduced us to. I personally am not using all of them, but feel free to click and learn more about these sites if you are interested. Depending on your needs, I think you will at least find 1-3 sites that you will find useful. Continue reading

【S】Social Media One-Night Stand II

Following my last post on the Twitter Tips that I learned from Social Media One Night Stand, this post will focus on some of the general/important concepts to succeed in social media.

Below are some of my biggest takeaways that I’d like to share with you-

  • “Social media is your embassy. Your website is your home country.” -@jimrosenberg

If you have a website, you’d like what you post on your social media channels to eventually lead people to your website and increase traffic or even customers.

  • Always BCollecting: You can decide what you want to do with this information later on. You don’t have to share right away. But always be prepared to collect information.

For example, this picture was taken many months ago before publishing it here- but it happened to fit perfectly with the theme. And obviously, it got a lot of attention.  Continue reading

【S】Social Media One-Night Stand I

So for those of you that don’t know what this is, it’s NOT what you think it is. 😛
It’s actually a really fun and informative 3-hr conference/lecture about social media!

This event was hosted by UW Communication Leadership Program, and the speaker was Sree Sreenivasan, Columbia University’s Chief Digital Officer and “one of AdAge’s 25 media people to follow on Twitter and one of Poynter’s 35 most influential people in social media”. Continue reading

【S】Networking 101

Hi Nora,

You know how business school always tells us how important networking is? They always say they can’t stress how important it is, but to many of us, networking isn’t necessarily the easiest thing. Over the past few years I’ve gotten advice for networking from different people, and I really appreciate all their advice! But I must say the most helpful and practical advice I got was from a “Networking 101 Workshop” hosted by Fortunato Vega, my host dad for 3 days when I first came to Seattle! He actually voluntarily offered this workshop for a group of us on a weekend- don’t you admire how generous and kind he is? :’)

I think I have already sent you the notes that we (the students) put together, but now that we have a blog. I thought it’d be a great platform to share it with you and our readers. So I edited a little and tried to make it more organized here. I still have so much to improve on (and really wish I’m better at it!), which is why I try to read over these notes from time to time. Hope these notes are helpful to you and whomever that’s reading this blog 🙂 Continue reading
